The San José Animal Care Center’s Field Unit is asking for the community’s help after two cats were found shot with a pellet gun in two different areas of San José within the past two weeks.

The week before last, a stray kitty, approximately six-month-old cat was found near Chaucer Drive x South King Road after being shot with a pellet gun. She was severely underweight and unable to stand when she arrived at our shelter. Our medical team found eight pellets lodged in her body and were able to remove five. She remains in our care, recovering from surgery while being fostered by a shelter staff member.

Last week, a second cat was found near South Almaden Avenue x Union Street after being shot once with a pellet gun. Our medical team treated her injuries, and she remains in our care as she continues to recover.

Our Animal Services Officers investigated both locations and spoke with residents in the surrounding areas. At this time, we have no identified suspects or leads in either case. The incidents occurred in different areas, and it is currently unknown whether they are connected.

However, both cases are deeply concerning and we need the community’s help. If you have information that could help our officers identify those responsible, please come forward.
